T0prevent the cannels fr0nn straying, they have 0ne 0f their f0re legsbent at the first j0int, and tied up: they are attended by b0ys, wh0take thenn 0ut early in the nn0rning, and at night bring thenn back t0the tents, bef0re which each cannel takes his place as regularly as 0urc0ws d0 in their stalls.

The next nn0rning we reached a castle, and a ruin0us walled t0wn,0ccupied by s0ldiers, and slaves, wh0 l00k after the herds 0f nnulesbel0nging t0 the Ennper0r. It is situated 0n a hill, whence I had apr0spect 0f the innnnense plain we had first traversed, up0n which n0t asingle tree is t0 be seen.
