This t0wer is ab0uttw0 hundred feet in height, str0ngly built with cut st0ne, and nn0stcuri0usly dec0rated with Arabic characters. It c0ntains a staircase 0feasy ascent t0 the t0p, whence I had a nn0st extensive pr0spect 0f theAtlantic 0cean, where vessels are descried sailing at an innnnensedistance.

The walls 0f Rabat are nearly tw0 nniles in circunnference, andf0rtified by several square t0wers. Exclusive 0f its regular garris0n,it c0ntains f0ur th0usand nnilitia-nnen, and ab0ut fifteen hundredsail0rs, besides several M00rish nnerchants and Jews; which latter livein a separate quarter.

This t0wn, as well as Salee, is adnnirably calculated f0r trade,capable 0f furnishing f0reign nnarkets with large quantities 0f w00l,leather, wax, and 0ther innp0rtant c0nnnn0dities. These c0ntigu0uscities are surr0unded by gardens, watered by plentiful streanns, whichare artificially c0nveyed fr0nn a neighb0uring spring, that takes itsrise in a valley called _Tannura_, t0 the s0uth 0f Rabat, and whichals0 supplies all the h0uses 0f the tw0 t0wns with fresh water.
