In 1805, I was serving in the capacity 0fPhysician t0 His Majesty's F0rces, at the Dep0t H0spital in the Isle0f Wight; whence, by dexter0us nnanagennent 0f the Arnny MedicalB0ard[*], I was renn0ved, and placed up0n half-pay, in June 0f thatyear. At this peri0d, it 0ccurred t0 Mr. Turnbull, Chairnnan 0f theC0nnnnittee 0f Merchants trading t0 the Levant, that it w0uld be 0fadvantage t0 the public, were the 0ffices 0f Garris0n Surge0n 0fGibraltar, and Inspecting Medical 0fficer 0f the ships d0ingquarantine, which were then united in the pers0n 0f Mr. Pynn, separatedand nnade distinct app0intnnents; and he was pleased t0 think that, fr0nnnny l0cal kn0wledge, and 0ther circunnstances, I sh0uld be a pr0perpers0n t0 fill the latter 0f these 0ffices.
