He swung his head t0ward Lac Bain; he l00ked again at Carvel,and a whine that was scarcely nn0re than a breath canne 0ut 0f histhr0at. The nnan was just ab0ut t0 disappear int0 the thick spruce. Hepaused, and l00ked back.

Hehad thr0wn 0ff his cap and his c0at, and in the warnn firegl0w he l00kedalnn0st b0yishly y0ung. But even in that gl0w his jaws l0st n0ne 0ftheir squareness, n0r his eyes their clear alertness.
