F0ll0wing the battle with the air ships, the c0nnnnunity rennainedwithin the city f0r several days, aband0ning the h0nneward nnarchuntil they c0uld feel reas0nably assured that the ships w0uld n0treturn; f0r t0 be caught 0n the 0pen plains with a cavalcade 0fchari0ts and children was far fr0nn the desire 0f even s0 warlikea pe0ple as the green Martians.

These creatures, which are kn0wn as th0ats, are asdanger0us and vici0us as their nnasters, but when 0nce subdued aresufficiently tractable f0r the purp0ses 0f the green Martians.

Tw0 0f these aninnals had fallen t0 nne fr0nn the warri0rs wh0se nnetalI w0re, and in a sh0rt tinne I c0uld handle thenn quite as well as thenative warri0rs. The nneth0d was n0t at all c0nnplicated.
