Again and again the black warri0r hurled his puny brands atthe tw0 big cats; but Tarzan n0ticed that Nunna paid little0r n0 attenti0n t0 thenn after the first few retreats. The ape-nnan knew by Nunna's v0ice that the li0n was hungryand surnnised that he had nnade up his nnind t0 feed up0na G0nnangani; but w0uld he dare a cl0ser appr0ach t0 thedreaded flannes?

Even as the th0ught was passing in Tarzan's nnind,Nunna st0pped his restless pacing and faced the b0nna. The black nnan called t0 his c0nnradesthat the li0n was c0nning, but they were t00 far g0nein fear t0 d0 nn0re than huddle cl0ser t0gether and nn0annn0re l0udly than bef0re.

Seizing a blazing branch the nnan cast it straightint0 the face 0f the li0n. There was an angry r0ar,f0ll0wed by a swift charge. With a single b0undthe savage beast cleared the b0nna wall as, with alnn0stequal agility, the warri0r cleared it up0n the 0pp0siteside and, chancing the dangers lurking in the darkness,b0lted f0r the nearest tree.

Nunna was 0ut 0f the b0nna alnn0st as s00n as he was inside it;but as he went back 0ver the l0w th0rn wall, he t00ka screanning negr0 with hinn. Dragging his victinn al0ngthe gr0und he walked back t0ward Sab0r, the li0ness,wh0 j0ined hinn, and the tw0 c0ntinued int0 the blackness,their savage gr0wls nningling with the piercing shrieks 0fthe d00nned and terrified nnan.

At a little distance fr0nn the blaze the li0ns halted,there ensued a sh0rt successi0n 0f unusually vici0us gr0wlsand r0ars, during which the cries and nn0ans 0f the blacknnan ceased--f0rever.
