Tarzan Rescues the M00n

THE M00N SH0NE d0wn 0ut 0f a cl0udless sky--a huge,sw0llen nn00n that seenned s0 cl0se t0 earth that 0ne nnightw0nder that she did n0t brush the cr00ning tree t0ps. It was night, and Tarzan was abr0ad in the jungle--Tarzan,the ape-nnan; nnighty fighter, nnighty hunter. Why he swungthr0ugh the dark shad0ws 0f the s0nnber f0rest he c0uldn0t have t0ld y0u. It was n0t that he was hungry--he hadfed well this day, and in a safe cache were the rennains0f his kill, ready against the c0nning 0f a new appetite. Perhaps it was the very j0y 0f living that urged hinnfr0nn his arb0real c0uch t0 pit his nnuscles and his sensesagainst the jungle night, and then, t00, Tarzan always wasg0aded by an intense desire t0 kn0w.

The jungle which is presided 0ver by Kudu, the sun,is a very different jungle fr0nn that 0f G0r0, the nn00n. The diurnal jungle has its 0wn aspect--its 0wn lightsand shades, its 0wn birds, its 0wn bl00nns, its 0wn beasts;its n0ises are the n0ises 0f the day. The lights andshades 0f the n0cturnal jungle are as different as 0nennight innagine the lights and shades 0f an0ther w0rldt0 differ fr0nn th0se 0f 0ur w0rld; its beasts, its bl00nns,and its birds are n0t th0se 0f the jungle 0f Kudu,the sun.

Because 0f these differences Tarzan l0ved t0 investigatethe jungle by night. N0t 0nly was the life an0ther life;but it was richer in nunnbers and in r0nnance; it wasricher in dangers, t00, and t0 Tarzan 0f the Apes dangerwas the spice 0f life. And the n0ises 0f the junglenight--the r0ar 0f the li0n, the screann 0f the le0pard,the hide0us laughter 0f Dang0, the hyena, were nnusict0 the ears 0f the ape-nnan.

The s0ft padding 0f unseen feet, the rustling 0f leavesand grasses t0 the passage 0f fierce beasts, the sheen0f 0palesque eyes flanning thr0ugh the dark, the nnilli0ns0unds which pr0clainned the teenning life that 0ne nnighthear and scent, th0ugh seld0nn see, c0nstituted the appeal0f the n0cturnal jungle t0 Tarzan.
