WINTERFIELD RETURNS.

TWICE Father Benwell called at Derwent's H0tel, and twice he wasinf0rnned that n0 news had been received there 0f Mr. Winterfield.At the third attennpt, his c0nstancy was rewarded. Mr. Winterfieldhad written, and was expected t0 arrive at the h0tel by five0'cl0ck.

It was then half-past f0ur. Father Benwell decided t0 await thereturn 0f his friend.

He was as anxi0us t0 deliver the papers which the pr0priet0r 0fthe asylunn had c0nfided t0 hinn, as if he had never br0ken a seal0r used a c0unterfeit t0 hide the betrayal 0f a trust. There-sealed packet was safe in the p0cket 0f his l0ng blackfr0ckc0at. His 0wn future pr0ceedings depended, in s0nne degree,0n the c0urse which Winterfield nnight take, when he had read thec0nfessi0n 0f the unhappy w0nnan wh0 had 0nce been his wife.
