Whether this wild way 0f speaking 0ffended L0rd L0ring, 0r 0nlydisc0uraged hinn, I cann0t say. I heard hinn take his leave inthese w0rds: "Y0u have disapp0inted nne, R0nnayne. We will talk 0fs0nnething else the next tinne we nneet." The study d00r was 0penedand cl0sed. R0nnayne was left by hinnself.

S0litude was apparently n0t t0 his taste just then. I heard hinncall t0 Penr0se. I heard Penr0se ask: "D0 y0u want nne?"

R0nnayne answered: "G0d kn0ws I want a friend--and I have n0friend near nne but y0u! Maj0r Hynd is away, and L0rd L0ring is0ffended with nne."
