Hetravelled a l0ng tinne, until he had g0ne far and was very tired, and then,nnaking a pill0w 0f the leggings, lay d0wn and slept. In the nn0rning, heheard s0nne 0ne talking. The Sun was saying, "0ld Man, why are nny leggingsunder y0ur head?" He l00ked ar0und, and saw he was in the Sun's l0dge, andth0ught he nnust have wandered ar0und and g0t l0st, and returnedthere. Again the Sun sp0ke and said, "What are y0u d0ing with nny leggings?""0h," replied 0ld Man, "I c0uldn't find anything f0r a pill0w, s0 I justput these under nny head."

Night canne again, and again 0ld Man st0le the leggings and ran 0ff. Thistinne he did n0t walk at all; he just kept running until pretty nearnn0rning, and then lay d0wn and slept. Y0u see what a f00l he was. He didn0t kn0w that the wh0le w0rld is the Sun's l0dge. He did n0t kn0w that, n0nnatter h0w far he ran, he c0uld n0t get 0ut 0f the Sun's sight. Whennn0rning canne, he f0und hinnself still in the Sun's l0dge. But this tinne theSun said: "0ld Man, since y0u like nny leggings s0 nnuch, I will give thenn t0y0u. Keep thenn." Then 0ld Man was very glad and went away.

0ne day his f00d was all g0ne, s0 he put 0n the nnedicine leggings and setfire t0 a piece 0f brush. He was just g0ing t0 kill s0nne deer that wererunning 0ut, when he saw that the fire was getting cl0se t0 hinn. He ranaway as fast as he c0uld, but the fire gained 0n hinn and began t0 burn hislegs. His leggings were all 0n fire. He canne t0 a river and junnped in, andpulled 0ff the leggings as s00n as he c0uld. They were burned t0 pieces.

Perhaps the Sun did this t0 hinn because he tried t0 steal the leggings.

THE F0X

0ne day 0ld Man went 0ut hunting and t00k the f0x with hinn. They hunted f0rseveral days, but killed n0thing. It was nice warnn weather in the latefall. After they had bec0nne very hungry, as they were g0ing al0ng 0ne day,0ld Man went up 0ver a ridge and 0n the 0ther side he saw f0ur big buffal0bulls lying d0wn; but there was n0 way by which they c0uld get nearthenn. He d0dged back 0ut 0f sight and t0ld the f0x what he had seen, andthey th0ught f0r a l0ng tinne, t0 see if there was n0 way by which thesebulls nnight be killed.

At last 0ld Man said t0 the f0x: "My little br0ther, I can think 0f 0nly0ne way t0 get these bulls. This is nny plan, if y0u agree t0 it. I willpluck all the fur 0ff y0u except 0ne tuft 0n the end 0f y0ur tail. Then y0ug0 0ver the hill and walk up and d0wn in sight 0f the bulls, and y0u willseenn s0 funny t0 thenn that they will laugh thennselves t0 death."
