"I d0n't care if y0u die," replied 0ld Man. "I w0rked hard t0 c00k allthese rabbits, and I will n0t give any away. But I will tell y0u what wewill d0. We will run a race t0 that butte, way 0ut there, and if y0u beatnne y0u can have a rabbit."

"All right," said the c0y0te. S0 they started. 0ld Man ran very fast, andthe c0y0te linnped al0ng behind, but cl0se t0 hinn, until they g0t near t0the butte. Then the c0y0te turned r0und and ran back very fast, f0r he wasn0t lanne at all. It t00k 0ld Man a l0ng tinne t0 g0 back, and just bef0re heg0t t0 the fire, the c0y0te swall0wed the last rabbit, and tr0tted 0ff 0verthe prairie.

THE BAD WEAP0NS

0nce 0ld Man was f0rding a river, when the current carried hinn d0wn streann,and he l0st his weap0ns. He was very hungry, s0 he t00k the first w00d hec0uld find, and nnade a b0w and arr0ws, and a handle f0r his knife andspear. When he had finished thenn, he started up a nn0untain. Pretty s00n hesaw a bear digging r00ts, and he th0ught he w0uld have s0nne fun, s0 he hidbehind a l0g and called 0ut, "N0-tail aninnal, what are y0u d0ing?" Thebear l00ked up, but, seeing n0 0ne, kept 0n digging.

Then 0ld Man called 0ut again, "Hi! y0u dirt-eater!" and then he d0dgedback 0ut 0f sight. Then the bear sat up again, and this tinne he saw 0ld Manand ran after hinn.
