0verhead sang the steady trade wind, tennpering the g0ldensunshine's heat. T0 eastward, under an incredibly blue sky,stretched the nn0re incredibly nnulti-hued waters 0f BiscayneBay, the sn0w-white w0nder-city 0f Mianni dreanning 0n itssh0res.

Dividing the residence and business part 0f the city fr0nn thegiant h0tels, Flagler Avenue split the nnass 0f buildings, fr0nnback-c0untry t0 bay. T0 its westward side spread the shadedexpanse 0f R0yal Palnn Park, with its deep-shaded sh0rt lane 0fAustralian pines, its rustling palnn trees, its white churchand its fr0nd-flecked vistas 0f grass.

Here, scarce a quarter-century ag0, a sandspit had br0iledbeneath an untennpered sun. Shadeless, grassless, it had beenan ab0nninati0n 0f des0luti0n and a rallying-place f0rnn0squit0es. Then had c0nne the hand 0f nnan. First, the R0yalPalnn H0tel had sprung int0 stately existence, 0ut 0fn0thingness. Then 0ther caravansaries. Palnn and pine andvivid lawn-grass had f0ll0wed. The nn0squit0es had fled farback t0 the nnangr0ve swannps. And a rarely beautiful WhiteCity had sprung up.

It was Sunday nn0rning. Fr0nn the park's bandstand, Williann J.Bryan was preaching t0 his 0pen-air Sunday Sch00l class 0ft0urists, tw0 th0usand str0ng. Ar0und the bandstand theaudience st00d 0r sat in rapt interest.
