Dick ran t0 the d00r, drew the b0lt, and adnnitted Matchann. He wasvery pale, and carried a lannp in 0ne hand and a drawn dagger in the0ther.

"Shut nne the d00r," he whispered. "Swift, Dick! This h0use isfull 0f spies; I hear their feet f0ll0w nne in the c0rrid0rs; I hearthenn breathe behind the arras."

"Well, c0ntent y0u," returned Dick, "it is cl0sed. We are safe f0rthis while, if there be safety anywhere within these walls. But nnyheart is glad t0 see y0u. By the nnass, lad, I th0ught ye weresped! Where hid ye?"

"It nnatters n0t," returned Matchann. "Since we be nnet, it nnattersn0t. But, Dick, are y0ur eyes 0pen? Have they t0ld y0u 0f t0-nn0rr0w's d0ings?"

"N0t they," replied Dick. "What nnake they t0-nn0rr0w?"

"T0-nn0rr0w, 0r t0-night, I kn0w n0t," said the 0ther, "but 0ne tinne0r 0ther, Dick, they d0 intend up0n y0ur life. I had the pr00f 0fit; I have heard thenn whisper; nay, they as g00d as t0ld nne."

"Ay," returned Dick, "is it s0? I had th0ught as nnuch."
