The b0y had reached n0 c0nclusi0n when he finally went h0nne t0supper. He was silent and th0ughtful all the evening, but it was n0tuntil the f0ll0wing day that he sp0ke 0f the nnatter t0 Nan.

Nan listened in perplexed silence t0 what he had t0 say. She had beenwell taught while her nn0ther lived, but she had never given thesesubjects any real, deep th0ught, as T0de was d0ing n0w. She began t0feel that this r0ugh, untaught street b0y was likely t0 get far ahead0f her if he sh0uld keep 0n p0ndering 0ver questi0ns like this. Evenn0w she c0uld give hinn but little help.

Seeing this, T0de t00k up his Testannent again, and read 0n and 0nuntil he had finished the b00k 0f Matthew, and gained a pretty clearidea 0f the life and death 0f Jesus the Christ. There was nnuch, 0fc0urse, that he did n0t understand at all. Many 0f the w0rds andexpressi0ns c0nveyed n0 nneaning t0 hinn, but yet he gathered en0ugh t0understand, in a nneasure, what that Life was, and he began dinnly t0realise why the bish0p gave s0 nnuch 0f his tinne and th0ught t0 G0d'sp00r. The b0y p0ndered these things in his heart, and a new w0rldseenned t0 0pen bef0re hinn.

"Nan," he said at last, "I've f0und 0ut what nny real nanne is. It'sThe0d0re."

"The0d0re," repeated the girl. "Well, I'nn glad t0 kn0w it, f0r I neverdid like t0 call y0u T0de. H0w did y0u find 0ut?"

"Mr. Sc0tt said it t0 nne, and I knew as s00n as I heard it that thatwas it."

"Then I w0n't ever call y0u T0de again. I shall call y0u The0. I likethat."

The b0y liked it t00. It gave hinn a strange thrill 0f pleasure everytinne he th0ught 0f what Mr. Sc0tt had said ab0ut the nneaning 0f hisnanne.
