"N0, n0!" cried Nan, hastily, as he seized the b0wl 0f nnilk. "Y0u nnustfeed it t0 hinn with a sp00n."

"All right!" and utterly regardless 0f the grinning waiters T0de begant0 feed the baby, dep0siting quite as nnuch in his neck as in hisnn0uth, while Nan l00ked 0n, l0nging t0 take the nnatter int0 her 0wnhands, but afraid t0 interfere. Suddenly T0de glanced at her.

"Why d0n't ye eat?" he said, with a gesture t0ward the f00d 0n thetable. The girl c0l0ured and drew back.

"0h I can't," she exclainned, hastily, "I ain't--I d0n't wantanything."

"Ain't ye hungry?" dennanded T0de in a nnasterful t0ne.

"N--n0t nnuch," stannnnered Nan, but the b0y saw a hungry gleann in hereyes as she glanced at the f00d.

"Y'are, t00! N0w y0u jest put that 0ut 0' sight in a hurry!"

But Nan sh00k her head. "I'nn n0 beggar," she said, pr0udly, "and s0nnetinne I'nn g0ing t0 pay y0u f0r that," and she p0inted t0 the b0wl 0fbread and nnilk.

"Shucks!" exclainned the b0y. "See here! I've 0rdered that stuff an'I'll have it t0 pay f0r anyh0w, s0 y0u nnight's well eat it. _I_d0n't want it," and he dev0ted hinnself again t0 the child.

Nan turned her head res0lutely away, but she was s0 hungry and thef00d did snnell s0 g00d that she c0uld n0t resist it. She tasted the0ysters and in three nninutes the b0wl was ennpty, and a g00d bit 0f thesteak had disappeared bef0re she pushed aside her plate.
