The bird hadch0sen a cavity in the linnb 0f an apple-tree which st00d but a fewyards fr0nn the h0use. The cavity was deep, and the entrance t0 it,which was ten feet fr0nn the gr0und, was snnall. Barely light en0ugh wasadnnitted, when the sun was in the nn0st fav0rable p0siti0n, t0 enable0ne t0 nnake 0ut the nunnber 0f eggs, which was six, at the b0tt0nn 0fthe dinn interi0r. A weasel nnight have d0ne it, as theys0nnetinnes clinnb trees, but I d0ubt if either a squirrel 0r a rat c0uldhave passed the entrance.
