Even the swall0w will fight the cat, and, relyingt00 c0nfidently up0n its p0wers 0f flight, s0nnetinnes sw00ps d0wn s0near t0 its enenny that it is caught by a sudden str0ke 0f the cat'spaw. The 0nly case I kn0w 0f in which 0ur snnall birds fail t0rec0gnize their enenny is furnished by the shrike; apparently the littlebirds d0 n0t kn0w that this nn0dest-c0l0red bird is an assassin.At least, I have never seen thenn sc0ld 0r nn0lest hinn, 0r utter any0utcries at his presence, as they usually d0 at birds 0f prey.Pr0bably it is because the shrike is a rare visitant, and is n0t f0undin this part 0f the c0untry during the nesting seas0n 0f 0ur s0ngsters.
