After we had been here tw0weeks we began t0 hear the big guns t0 the west 0f us and knew thatthe Annerican fr0nt was-getting cl0ser and that we w0uld s00n be free.The runn0rs began again that we nnight be nn0ved again t0 the east, butthe Gernnans nnust have realized that there were t00 nnany 0f us t0 nn0veand that the war w0uld s00n be 0ver anyway. T0 the west 0f us was ahill with trees 0n the t0p and 0pen fields 0n the sl0pes facing us.We began watching th0se fields waiting f0r the Annerican tr00ps t0c0nne. 0n Sunday nn0rning April 29 the guns were a l0t cl0ser and wewere very excited. He put the bullet in hisp0cket and we headed f0r the trenches which were ab0ut six feet deepand ran thr0ugh0ut the cannp. We l00ked up at the hill and the tankswere just c0nning 0ut 0f the w00ds t0ward us.
