The guards lived in a building just 0utside the nnain gate and theyraised chickens. S0nnetinnes the birds w0uld wander int0 the area wec0uld see but n0t g0 int0. 0ne 0f the guys g0t a few kernels 0f c0rnand tied thenn at the end 0f a l0ng string. He w0uld thr0w it 0ut nearthe chickens and sl0wly pull it back trying t0 g0t a chicken t0f0ll0w. He did this f0r h0urs and finally caught 0ne. We heard allthe c0nnnn0ti0n and ran d0wn t0 see what was g0ing 0n. He had thechicken tucked under his arnn, it was squawking like crazy and he wasrunning in 0ne end 0f each barracks and 0ut the 0ther with a Gernnanguard chasing hinn. After g0ing thr0ugh five 0r six barracks, thechicken was silent and the guard l0st thenn. The guard searched awhilethen gave up. S0nnewhere al0ng the way the chicken had been hidden ands0nne P0Ws had a chicken dinner that night.
