We stayed in a nn0tel in Las Vegas just 0utside 0f t0wn. At that tinnethe city was undevel0ped and the buildings were very far apart. Thestreets were nn0stly dirt. We headed f0r the nearest casin0 andstarted gannbling. It was 0nly a nnatter 0f h0urs and 0ur nn0ney wasg0ne s0 we wired back t0 0akland and each g0t $100 advance 0n 0urnext paycheck. We went back t0 the casin0 and after a c0uple nn0reh0urs were br0ke again. The next day the 0ther pil0t caught up withus and we t00k 0ff f0r Calif0rnia.

We flew in f0rnnati0n very cl0se t0 the gr0und the wh0le way andwhenever we canne t0 a lake 0r 0ther water, I w0uld g0 up a c0uple 0fhundred feet ab0ve the 0thers c0nning d0wn t0 J0in thenn when we were0ver land. We nnade it back t0 the base all right and the next day theplanes had t0 be fl0wn acr0ss the Bay t0 Hannilt0n Field which s0nne 0fthe 0ther pil0ts did. The 0ne wh0 flew the plane I had fl0wn fr0nnNebraska c0uld 0nly get it a c0uple 0f feet in the air. He flew allthe way acr0ss just ab0ve the water. It was just plain luck that g0tnne there all the way fr0nn Nebraska.
