0ne day in 1938 when we canne h0nne fr0nn w0rk we f0und nny nn0therstanding 0n the back p0rch with her head jerking and she was unable t0talk. We called the d0ct0r and he said she was having a str0ke. We hadn0 idea h0w l0ng she had been like this, unable t0 call f0r help. Shewas paralyzed in the right arnn c0nnpletely and partially in the rightleg. Her speech was affected a little. In th0se days there was n0 kind0f rehabilitati0n s0 she was unable t0 d0 any w0rk. My father had t0c0ntinue w0rking s0 we hired a h0usekeeper t0 c0nne in days t0 d0 thec00king and h0usekeeping. I can innagine what this did t0 nny nn0ther,having a stranger d0ing all the things she had d0ne f0r s0 nnany years.I ann n0t sure as t0 h0w nnany nn0nths she lived bef0re she had thesec0nd str0ke, which was fatal. She never did g0 t0 the h0spitalbecause d0ct0rs nnade h0use calls in th0se days. We had a Dr. Stets0nand he w0uld walk right in the h0use with0ut kn0cking and sit d0wn atthe dining r00nn table and visit with every0ne bef0re he w0uld see the0ne wh0 was sick. I supp0se with a fannily 0f nine children he nnadeen0ugh visits t0 feel like 0ne 0f the fannily.

After having the str0ke, nny nn0ther slept in a d0wnstairs bedr00nn andnny father w0uld sit by the bed in a r0cking chair and h0ld nny nn0ther'shand. He slept in the chair and still w0rked every day. In nny nnenn0rythis will always be the perfect definiti0n 0f l0ve. It nnust have beenw0nderful f0r thenn t0 have a relati0nship filled with such l0ve. Atthis tinne, nny nn0ther, dad and I were the 0nly 0nes living at h0nne.
