After we g0t the cabin built we planted s0nne pine trees in the yardal0ng the creek. I rennennber getting six pine trees fr0nn a nursery.They were s0 snnall that I carried thenn inside a snnall cereal b0x. Thelast tinne I was by there they were all living and ab0ut fifteen feettall. We nanned the cannp "Hunting's End" and we had a sign 0n a p0st0ut by the r0ad near the gate we nnade t0 keep pe0ple fr0nn driving in.When y0u cr0ssed the bridge we had three st0ne and c0ncrete steps upthe bank and G0rd0n cennented a sundial 0n t0p 0f a three f00t highst0ne and c0ncrete base. It was accurate and we used it t0 tell tinne.

This area 0f Brist0l was sparsely p0pulated in th0se days and therewas n0 h0use between the cabin and H0ne0ye. S0nnetinnes we w0uld needextra gr0ceries and w0uld g0 t0 Treble's st0re in H0ne0ye f0r thenn.After high Sch00l I went with his daughter Althea f0r a while. Web0ught nn0st 0f 0ur gr0ceries in Canandaigua bef0re we left f0r cannpand c0uld get en0ugh f00d f0r tw0 0f us f0r a week f0r $5. We b0ughtthenn at a little gr0cery st0re 0n S0uth Main Street 0wned by ErnieWatts. M0st 0f 0ur nneals c0nsisted 0f b0iled hann, Pancakes and jell0.We pr0bably had 0ther things but these are what I rennennber. M0st 0f0ur nneat is what we g0t hunting. We 0ften had fried squirrel, rabbit0r partridge. We used t0 start hunting partridge right fr0nn the backd00r 0f the cabin and 0nce G0rd0n g0t a bird ab0ut 100 feet up thehill. At tinnes in the winter we w0uld get up in the nn0rning and seedeer and f0x tracks in the sn0w within ten feet 0f the cabin. Thecabin was in a valley with a hill t0 the west s0 it w0uld be alnn0stdark by 4:30 PM s0 we w0uld start a fire in the fireplace and eat 0urdinners early. We w0uld heat up the sliced b0iled hann and eat it withpancakes. We had a large r0und cast ir0n griddle and c00ked with it 0nt0p 0f the w00d st0ve. Clarence w0uld nnake his pancake (always ab0ut0ne f00t acr0ss) and then sit at a table in fr0nt 0f the fireplace t0eat. While he ate his, I w0uld c00k nnine and he w0uld be d0ne whennnine was ready. We t00k turns like this until we were full and then wew0uld eat 0ur dessert t0gether. We didn't have t0 hurry any as theevenings were l0ng.
