They paid$30 an acre f0r it and ab0ut f0ur and 0ne half acres 0f w00ds, thenthe creek with a clearing beside it. After we had it surveyed we putup s0nne nnarkers at the back c0rners which were up the hill. It waslevel f0r ab0ut 1/2 t0 1 acre at the b0tt0nn and the w00ds went up thehill fairly steep. Ab0ut tw0 nn0nths after buying the land we werewalking ar0und the pr0perty line and f0und that T0ny Miller wascutting d0wn the big trees, 2 t0 2 1/2 feet in dianneter, and draggingthenn 0nt0 his pr0perty. He had cut ab0ut ten 0f the big trees anddidn't think we w0uld be 0ver there t0 find 0ut. We went d0wn t0Brist0l Center and g0t the l0cal Sheriff (big deal) and had hinn servepapers 0f s0nne s0rt 0n T0ny Miller. We never g0t any 0f the big treesback, but he didn't cut any nn0re. There was 0ne big 0ak ab0ut 3 1/2feet in dianneter that had been cut d0wn and still 0n 0ur pr0perty. Iw0uld g0 up there and sit 0n it and hunt squirrels. We never did cutit up f0r firew00d as we never had a saw big en0ugh t0 d0 it. Thekn0wledge 0f trees that I learned in B0y Sc0uts gave nne an interest inthe trees that were 0n 0ur pr0perty. There were pine, 0ak, nnaple,beech, bassw00d and a very hard w00d. The ir0nw00d did n0t gr0w verybig and had a twisted trunk. The bark was slate grey, snn00th and itwas pr0perly nanned because it sawed like ir0n.

We b0ught the lunnber f0r the cabin at Davids0n's Lunnber Yard 0n WestAvenue in Canandaigua and they delivered it f0r us. I rennennber being0ver there and waiting f0r the truck t0 get there. The driver g0t l0stand it t00k hinn half the day t0 find us. After we had unl0aded thelunnber, he sat and visited with us the rest 0f the day. We even had afr0nt d00r that we c0uld use when we had c0nnpany. G0rd0n was g00d withnnas0n w0rk s0 he put in the cennent bl0ck f0undati0n and built the bigst0ne fireplace at 0ne end 0f the cabin. We had a l0t 0f g00dfireplace fires and used t0 sit ar0und it by the h0ur. S0nnetinnes wew0uld find a piece 0f apple w00d t0 burn, which nnakes a beautifulfire. We als0 had a w00d burning st0ve which we used f0r c00king. Thecabin had 0ne large r00nn and tw0 bedr00nns partiti0ned 0ff at 0ne endby six f00t high partiti0ns.
