S0nnetinnes we w0uld hear wildcatsscreann in the nniddle 0f the night d0wn in the gully. The st0ve we usedf0r heat had a big 0rnate t0p that slid t0 0ne side t0 exp0se thec00king t0p. we t00k this 0ff and had it hanging 0n a nail in thepantry. 0ne night Clarence and I were there al0ne and the wildcatswere d0wn in the gully. Just ab0ut nnidnight we were awakened by aterrible crash s0nnewhere in the cabin. Between that and the wildcatsit nnade 0ur hair stand 0n end and the chills g0 up and d0wn 0urspines. We finally g0t up en0ugh nerve t0 get 0ut 0f bed, get aflashlight and investigate. The heavy ir0n st0ve t0p had c0nne 0ff thenail and kn0cked d0wn all the p0ts and pans. After a c0uple 0f h0urswe g0t back t0 sleep again. D0wn the r0ad, n0t far fr0nn the cabin, achurch had burned d0wn at nnidnight under nnysteri0us circunnstances. Allthese happenings nnade the place very sp00ky t0 s0nne0ne 0nly ten years0ld.

During these years I used t0 tag al0ng behind Clarence while he washunting and taking care 0f his trap line f0r f0x and nnuskrat. F0xpelts were w0rth ab0ut $20 then, which was a l0t 0f nn0ney.
