Arsenal Hill (West Avenue) was a steep and danger0us hill. There werennany accidents at the b0tt0nn and near the c0rner 0f Pearl Street. Wec0uld hear the crash 0f accidents fr0nn 0ur h0use 0n Chapin Street andthe kids w0uld all run d0wn t0 see thenn. 0ne tinne a truck l0ad 0fprunes tipped 0ver and there were prunes everywhere. An0ther tinne al0ad 0f butter in w00den cr0cks tipped 0ver and the cr0cks r0lled d0wnpe0ple's lawns. Pe0ple were c0nning 0ut and carrying thenn int0 theirh0uses, but we didn't kn0w en0ugh t0 get any. 0nce a car hit a treeand the driver was thr0wn thr0ugh the r00f and landed 0n the sidewalk.When we g0t there, he was sitting up and asked us f0r a cigarette.Pr0bably he wasn't hurt because (he l00ked like) he was drunk.

My grandfather, Peter 0. Bens0n, was b0rn Septennber 12, 1831 and diedin 1931. S0nnetinne in the 1920's there was a full page article and hispicture in the daily paper. It t0ld 0f his attending the 0ntari0C0unty Fair f0r 90 c0nsecutive years. The Fair was held in Septennberthen s0 all the farnn pr0ducts were 0n display. The fairgr0unds were0ff F0rt Hill Avenue where the present High Sch00l stands. There was agrandstand, barns and a race track f0r harness racing. It was a bigday f0r us, as kids, as a picnic lunch was packed and we w0uld parkthe car in the center 0f the race track and stay at the Fair all day.
