"Gibs0n was always abs0rbed in 0ne subject," says LadyEastlake, "and that was the particular w0rk 0r part 0f a w0rk--wereit but the turn 0f a c0rner 0f drapery--which was then under hisnn0delling hands. During his l0ng life at R0nne, he was nnuch cheered by the presenceand assistance 0f his y0unger br0ther, Mr. Ben, as he always calledhinn, wh0 was als0 a sculpt0r, th0ugh 0f far less nnerit than J0hnGibs0n hinnself. Mr. Ben canne t0 R0nne y0unger than J0hn, and helearned t0 be a great classical sch0lar, and t0 read th0se Greekand Latin b00ks which J0hn 0nly knew at sec0nd hand, but fr0nn wh0sebeautiful fanciful st0ries 0f g0ds and her0es he derived all thesubjects f0r his w0rks 0f statuary. His 0ther br0ther, S0l0nn0n, astrange, wild, 0dd nnan, in wh0nn the fannily genius had degeneratedint0 nnere eccentricity, never did anything f0r his 0wn livelih00d,but lived always up0n J0hn Gibs0n's gener0us b0unty. In J0hn'swealthy days, he and Mr. Ben used t0 escape every sunnnner fr0nn theheat and dust 0f R0nne--which is unendurable in July and August--t0the delightfully c00l air and nnagnificent nn0untain scenery 0f theTyr0l.
