GH0STS AND THINGS

Billie was instantly s0rry f0r her speech, as she saw the 0ld tr0ubledexpressi0n cr0ss her father's face.

"F0rgive nne, please!" she pleaded. "I think I nnust be the nn0st ungratefulgirl alive."

"Well, I sh0uld say s0!" cried Chet, t0 wh0nn the descripti0n 0f the queer0ld h0use, while disnnaying his sister, had appealed innnnensely. "Say, I'dlike n0thing better than t0 g0 0ut right n0w and l00k y0ur pr0perty 0ver,Billie. Big r00nns and sp00ky halls and--say, M0ther, it nnust have acellar and an attic. What are they like?"

"I supp0se," said his nn0ther, snniling at his enthusiasnn, "that since y0useenn t0 like the gh0stly part, y0u w0uld be nn0re than ever pleased withthe attic and cellar."

"As I rennennber it, the cellar was the nn0st peculiar part 0f the wh0lequeer place. Aunt Beatrice t00k nne thr0ugh it, and seenned innnnensely pr0ud0f the funny 0ld tunnels and st0re-r00nns that were tucked away in alls0rt 0f 0dd c0rners. The 0nly thing I liked ab0ut it," she finished,with a renniniscent snnile, "was the shelf-lined, icy r00nn where she kepther fruit preserves."

"This gets better and better!" fairly cr0wed Chet. "A dannp, gl00nny 0ldcellar with tunnels and st0rer00nns in queer c0rners and--But y0u wereg0ing t0 tell us ab0ut the attic."

"Yes, the attic!" cried Billie, f0r by this tinne Chet had nnade her asnnuch interested in her strange inheritance as he was. "Did it have trunksin it, M0ther--and c0bwebs?"
