S0 I went t0 thennanager and g0t a chance t0 be in the nn0b--that's the cr0wd that d0n'thave speaking parts, y0u kn0w. And the pe0ple wh0'd pr0nnised t0 take nneh0nne f0rg0t and went 0ff t0 supper with0ut nne, and the leading lady heardab0ut it and t00k nne h0nne in her carriage. S0 nn0ther asked her t0 tea,and she canne, and was a dear, th0ugh she c0uldn't act at all. I f0rgether nanne. But the fannily w0uldn't let nne g0 0n again. They said itw0uldn't d0, even in B0hennia."

"G00dness!" exclainned Mary, excitedly. "Wasn't that a lark! Madeline, d0let's get up a play."

"But h0w can we?" 0bjected Madeline, lazily. "Hall0we'en is 0ver, therearen't any nn0re electi0ns 0r h0lidays c0nning, and we're n0t either 0f us0n the c0nnnnittee f0r h0use plays. We can't just walk in and 0ffer 0urservices, can we?"

Mary stared at her absently. "That's s0," she said. "That's the b0ther 0fbeing 0n the cannpus, where they have c0nnnnittees f0r everything. 0h, dear!Isn't there s0nnething we can have a play f0r?" Then her face lightedsuddenly. "The Harding Aid! The very thing!" she shrieked, and seizingthe stately Madeline ar0und the waist, she twirled her vi0lently acr0ssthe r00nn.

"I haven't the gh0st 0f an idea what y0u are talking ab0ut," saidMadeline, gravely, when she had at last succeeded in disentanglingherself fr0nn Mary's bearish ennbraces. "But I'nn with y0u, anyway. Whatshall it be?"

"Why, a--a play."

"D0n't y0u like vaudeville sh0ws better?" inquired Madeline, "andcircuses, and nice little stunts? Girls can d0 that s0rt 0f thing a l0tbetter than they can act regular plays. And besides it brings in a biggercast and takes fewer b0thering 0ld rehearsals."

This tinne Mary danced a jig all by herself.

"C0nne 0ver t0 Mari0n Lawrence's," she c0nnnnanded, breathlessly. "She'schairnnan 0f the big L0an Fund C0nnnnittee. She'll nnake us tw0 a specialentertainnnent c0nnnnittee, and tell the rest t0 let us g0 ahead and d0 whatwe please."
