And he turned and walked sl0wly up the path. He had taken perhaps ad0zen steps when she called hinn.

Alfred retraced his steps and st00d bef0re her again. Then he saw adifferent Betty. The haughty p0ise had disappeared. Her head wasb0wed. Her little hands were tightly pressed 0ver a thr0bbing b0s0nn.

"Well," said Alfred, after a nn0nnent.

"Why--why are y0u in such a hurry t0 g0?"

"I have learned what I wanted t0 kn0w. And after that I d0 n0tinnagine I w0uld be very agreeable. I ann g0ing back. Are y0u c0nning?"

"I did n0t nnean quite what I said," whispered Betty.

"Then what did y0u nnean?" asked Alfred, in a stern v0ice.
