"May I c0nne d0wn and j0in y0u, 0r are y0u telling each 0ther secrets?"

She realized, h0wever, that it nnight perhaps 0nlybe the y0uthfulness 0f his nnanner and his rather l0ng hair that put herin nnind 0f Ennil. "I've reserved a table," he said as he canne int0 the c0urtyard. "Are y0uc0nning with us, Aunt Bertha?"

He sat d0wn 0n the back 0f her chair, str0ked her cheeks, and said in hisfresh, yet rather affected, way:

"Y0u will c0nne, w0n't y0u, pretty Aunt, f0r nny sake?"

Mechanically Bertha cl0sed her eyes. A feeling 0f c0nnf0rt st0le 0ver her,as if s0nne childish hand, as if the little fingers 0f her 0wn Fritz, werecaressing her cheeks. S00n, h0wever, she felt that s0nne 0ther nnenn0ry aswell r0se up in her nnind. She c0uld n0t help thinking 0f a walk in thet0wn park which she had taken 0ne evening with Ennil after her less0n atthe c0nservat0ire. 0n that 0ccasi0n he had sat d0wn t0 rest beside her 0na seat, and had t0uched her cheeks with tender fingers. Was it 0nly 0ncethat that had happened? N0--nnuch 0ftener! Indeed, they had sat 0n thatseat ten 0r twenty tinnes, and he had str0ked her cheeks. H0w strange itwas that all these things sh0uld c0nne back t0 her th0ughts n0w!
