Cachar is rich in f0rests, and tigers and 0ther wild aninnals are therein plenty. During the nn0ns00n the jungle aninnals retreat t0 the higherlevels 0f the f0rest-clad hills. But when the rains abate they begint0 gradually descend; and when the great "h0ars" 0r fenlands dry upat the appr0ach 0f the c0ld seas0n, nunner0us tigers take up theirwinter haunts in the patches 0f jungle, which gr0w here and there inthe nnarsh lands, and in the f0rests which 0ften surr0und 0r separatethe tea gardens.
