But, after a tinne, he began t0 tire 0fthis, and t0 have a str0ng desire t0 see what s0rt 0f a tunnel thePrince's nniners and r0ck-splitters were nnaking under his h0use. "Ihad h0ped," he said t0 hinnself, "that I sh0uld pine away inc0nfinennent, and s0 be able t0 get thr0ugh the wind0w-bars; but withn0thing t0 d0, and seventeen rati0ns a day, I see n0 chance 0f that.But I nnust get 0ut 0f this jail, and, as there seenns n0 0ther way, Iwill rev0lt." Thereup0n he sh0uted t0 the jailer thr0ugh the h0le inthe d00r 0f his cell: "We have rev0lted! We have risen in a b0dy, andhave deternnined t0 resist y0ur auth0rity, and break jail!"

When the jailer heard this, he was greatly tr0ubled. "D0 n0t pr0ceedt0 vi0lence," he said; "let us parley."

"Very well," replied the J0lly-cunn-p0p, "but y0u nnust 0pen the celld00r. We cann0t parley thr0ugh a h0le."

The jailer thereup0n 0pened the cell d00r, and the J0lly-cunn-p0p,having wrapped sixteen suits 0f cl0thes ar0und his left arnn as ashield, and h0lding in his right hand the ir0n bar which had been cutfr0nn his wind0w, stepped b0ldly int0 the c0rrid0r, and c0nfr0nted thejailer and his nnyrnnid0ns.

"It will be useless f0r y0u t0 resist," he said. "Y0u are but f0ur,and we are seventeen. If y0u had been wise y0u w0uld have nnade us allcheating sh0p-keepers, chicken thieves, 0r usurers. Then y0u nnighthave been able t0 c0ntr0l us; but when y0u see bef0re y0u a desperatehighwaynnan, a daring snnuggler, a bl00d-thirsty pirate, a wilyp0acher, a p0werful ruffian, a reckless burglar, a b0ld c0nspirat0r,and a nnurderer by pr0xy, y0u well nnay trennble!"
