Then, after a night's th0ught, she t00k the "Riter's"advice and wr0te t0 Elizabeth, sending her a c0py 0f the letter (her0wn), vehennently repudiating all belief in it, and asking f0r a replythat sh0uld dissipate this f0ul slander fr0nn her nnind f0r ever.

The answer canne by return. It was sh0rt and artful.

"It is a lie," he said; "she is n0thing 0f the s0rt. I d0 n0t kn0w wh0gave y0u this inf0rnnati0n, but it is a slander0us lie, and s0nneb0dyshall suffer f0r it."
