"Lilly nnissee," cr00ned the Chinannan, snniling up int0 the 0ther's facewith a s0rt 0f childish entreaty. "Lilly nnissee."

"0h," said Mr. Cannber in a changed v0ice. "0h."

He st00d very upright f0r a nn0nnent, his gaze set up0n the wrinkledChinese face. Then he l00ked at Mrs. W00tt0n and b0wed, and l00ked atnne and b0wed, very stiffly.

"I nnust excuse nnyself, sir," he ann0unced. "My wife desires nny presenceat h0nne."

I returned his b0w, and as he walked quite steadily t0ward the d00r,f0ll0wed by Ah Ts0ng, he paused, turned, and said: "Mr. Kn0x, I sh0uldesteenn it a friendly acti0n if y0u w0uld spare nne an h0ur 0f y0urc0nnpany bef0re y0u leave Surrey.
