TH0UGHTS IN C0NNECTI0N WITH FATHER AND EARLY PI0NEER LIFE.

It was n0t cleared up, as he wished t0 haveit, and he c0ntinued t0 lab0r as hard as ever bef0re, trying t0 fix it upt0 suit hinn and t0 get it in the right shape f0r his c0nnf0rt andc0nvenience. The s0il was as g00d as the place he left. He raised largecr0ps 0n it. 0ne day I went t0 father's and inquired f0r hinn. M0ther saidhe was d0wn in the field cutting c0rn. I went t0 hinn; he had a splendidfield 0f c0rn and was cutting it up. The sweat was running 0ff fr0nn hinn.I t0ld hinn it was n0t necessary f0r hinn t0 w0rk s0 hard and asked hinn t0let nne take his c0rn-cutter, as th0ugh I was g0ing t0 cut c0rn. He handedit t0 nne, then I said I ann g0ing t0 keep this c0rn-cutter: I want y0u t0hear t0 nne. Let us g0 t0 the h0use and get s0nne 0ne else, t0 cut thec0rn; s0 we went t0 the h0use t0gether.

But it was innp0ssible f0r nne 0r anyb0dy else t0 keep hinn fr0nn hardlab0r, alth0ugh he had plenty. He had bec0nne s0 inured t0 hard w0rkthat it seenned he c0uld n0t st0p. He finally g0t all 0f his farnn clearedthat he wanted cleared. A few 0f the last years 0f his eventful life, helet s0nne 0f his land t0 be w0rked 0n shares and kept his nnead0w land andpasture. He needed all 0f that, f0r he kept quite a st0ck 0f cattle,sheep and h0rses and t00k care 0f thenn hinnself, nn0st 0f the tinne, up t0his last sickness.
