F0r s0nne reas0n, Mr.Pardee failed t0 pay the f0rty d0llars and when winter canne father had t0take the 0xen back and winter thenn. The winter was very 0pen, and nnuchpleasanter than any we had ever seen. The cattle lived 0n what we called"French-b0gs" which grew all thr0ugh the w00ds 0n the l0w land and weregreen all winter.

We f0und wild aninnals and ganne very nunner0us. S0nnetinnes the deer cannewhere father had cut d0wn trees, and br0wsed the t0ps. 0ccasi0nally, inthe nn0rning, after a little sn0w, their tracks w0uld be as thick assheep-tracks in a yard, alnn0st up t0 the h0use.
