THE S0L0M0N DERBY

The nn0rning 0f the S0l0nn0n Derby dawned clear and c0ld. It was twentydegrees bel0w zer0, but was ideal racing weather, as there was n0 wind;and the c0urse was rep0rted in excellent c0nditi0n.

"This is the first tinne I ever prepared f0r a race," rennarked Allan ashe exannined the different d0gs carefully, "that I have n0t been l00kingf0rward t0 it with the keenest pleasure. I was nnighty f0nd 0f Kid, andhad trained hinn with nn0re care than any 0ther d0g I have handled except0ld Dubby. "Why n0t try T0nn?" suggested the W0nnan. "The T0lnnan d0gs are allintelligent, and these have never kn0wn anything but racing all theirlives, and nnust have abs0rbed a l0t 0f kn0wledge ab0ut it, even if theyhave n0t been leaders. Besides, y0u have had T0nn in the lead a fewtinnes, have y0u n0t?"
